DuMond Whippets

Although we had our fair share of male dogs growing up, I have always had a preference for the girls (male horses, male cats--but female dogs.  Go figure!).  So, after the decision had been made that I would get my first whippet, and after I had been offered a female from the litter out of Am Ch Klondyke Spin the Shadow x Am Can Ch Frontrunner's Ruby Malone ("Blixen") , I waited with baited breath as Blixen whelped her first litter...and I waited...and waited, as dog after dog emerged.  Finally, a lone female was born and she came to be known as Can Ch Spicewind It's All About Me! ("Abby")...the start of all things DuMond.

Although I absolutely love our boys, if I were to be honest, I would have to admit that I still have a preference for the girls.  That being said, I have found that while the girls are loving and affectionate, generally they are also much smarter (sometimes not in a good way!), are more of a challenge to train (I do believe the girls are born with that whippet 'selective hearing' gene), and are more cat-like in their temperament (read:  independent).  An old-time whippet breeder once told me that the girls "will only come to you when they want something..." and I have found through my own experiences that he has a point on that score.  It kind of reminds me of me...hmmm...must be why I prefer them!

We have and continue to enjoy each and every one of our girls.  They have given us great moments in the ring, on the field and in the whelping box, but most especially gracing the DuMond home, property and our lives.

Check out the individual pages for Abby, BeBe, Eve, Dy-Dy, Clare, Geisha & Elise for more information and photos on each of them.
